The inaugural Dragon Lion golf challenge between the St Andrew’s Society and the St David’s Society for the Rab Thomas Trophy took place on Saturday 15th January at The Vintage Club.
In the January winter sunshine, the two teams of 16 in blue and red were matched up for a classic game of four ball stableford match play.
When the dust settled, there were notable points wins for the pairings of John Bell/Paul Wyatt and Martin Weber/Gordon Milne, but with all points counted the overall match ended in a 12-12 tied contest. With mutual agreement between the convenors, this was a fitting conclusion to the day’s contest. The battle for the Rab Thomas Trophy to be continued in 2023.
Thanks are due to Gareth Knight and the St. David’s team, to David Clarkson for the generous prize donations and Dougie Riach for a lovely tribute and toast to Rab to close the day’s proceedings.
